Tifa Lockhart Officially Joins Street Fighter 6 as Part of Year 4 DLC

After years of fan requests, rumors, speculation, and countless crossover wish lists, it’s finally happening. Tifa Lockhart is officially coming to Street Fighter 6.

Capcom made the announcement during Summer Game Fest 2026, revealing that the iconic Final Fantasy VII heroine will join the game’s Year 4 roster as a guest fighter. The reveal instantly became one of the biggest talking points of the show and marks a major crossover between two of gaming’s most recognizable franchises. Alongside Tifa, Capcom also announced three additional fighters joining the roster: Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch.

For many fans, however, this announcement was all about Tifa.

Since her debut in the original Final Fantasy VII in 1997, Tifa has become one of Square Enix’s most popular characters. Known for her hand-to-hand combat skills, powerful martial arts techniques, and role as a key member of Avalanche, she has remained a fan favorite through multiple games, films, and appearances in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project. Unlike many RPG characters who rely on swords, magic, or ranged attacks, Tifa specializes in close-range martial arts combat, making her a natural fit for a fighting game roster.

The announcement trailer didn’t showcase any gameplay footage, but it did provide fans with their first look at Tifa’s Street Fighter 6 design. Her appearance closely resembles her modern Final Fantasy VII Remake look, featuring her iconic white top, black skirt, gloves, and martial arts-inspired fighting style. While Capcom has not yet revealed her full moveset, many fans are already speculating about how abilities from Final Fantasy VII Remake could translate into Street Fighter 6’s combat system.

One possibility is that Tifa could utilize fast rushdown attacks similar to characters like Cammy or Juri. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, Tifa excels at rapid combos, pressure-heavy offense, and devastating close-range attacks. Her signature techniques such as Dolphin Blow, Starshower, and Rise and Fall could potentially become special moves or super attacks within Street Fighter 6. Of course, Capcom has yet to reveal any official gameplay details.

The announcement is particularly significant because Tifa represents one of the biggest guest characters ever added to a mainline Street Fighter game. While Street Fighter has featured crossover content in the past, bringing in a character from one of gaming’s most beloved RPG franchises is a major moment for the series.

The reveal also sparked plenty of discussion among fighting game fans online. For years, many players had hoped Tifa would eventually appear in Tekken due to her martial arts background and the series’ history of guest fighters. Instead, Capcom managed to secure one of gaming’s most requested crossover characters for Street Fighter 6, surprising much of the fighting game community.

Tifa will be part of Street Fighter 6’s Year 4 content lineup alongside newcomers Yasmine and Arjun, as well as Bosch, a character players may recognize from the game’s World Tour mode. Together, the four fighters will make up the next wave of DLC content for Capcom’s hit fighting game.

At the moment, Capcom has not announced an exact release date for Tifa, though she is currently scheduled to arrive as part of the Year 4 roadmap beginning in early 2027. More information, including gameplay footage, special moves, alternate costumes, and release timing, is expected in the coming months.

For now, one thing is certain: one of gaming’s most iconic martial artists is finally stepping into the world of Street Fighter. And if the reaction from fans is any indication, Tifa’s arrival may end up being one of the biggest fighting game moments of 2027.
